Privacy and Presidential Candidates

November 12, 2020

Dear Members,

As you know, the Branch is had an election today, from 4-9pm.  (You may read full details on the election at sandiegonaacp.org/election.)  Part of the NAACP election process is that the Presidential candidates are allowed to view the membership roster with a team of five members in good standing:

The Election Supervisory Committee via the (interim) unit secretary shall, upon request from any nominee for President, make the membership roster or list available to the nominee. They may not copy the membership roster or list, but within reasonable limits, address communications from the list or roster of members at the candidate’s expense, provided that the same privilege is extended to all candidates for President at the same time.

The membership voted at our November 6th General Membership Meeting to include email addresses in the roster that was viewed.  Now that the election is finished, you should not receive additional emails from the Presidential candidates, except on official NAACP business.

We want you to know that you may explicitly opt-out of release of any contact information to NAACP Presidential candidates.  If you do not wish to provide your contact information to future Presidential campaigns, please send an email with the subject “Privacy” to [email protected].

You will still be able to receive our newsletters; you just will not be contacted directly by future Presidential candidates and their teams.

Thank you,

Francine Maxwell, President
NAACP San Diego Branch
