Job Description and Duties

In accordance with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-33-20 and, as a result of the COVID-19 rapid out-break, Caltrans will continue its hiring practices as they are deemed necessary to “maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure…,” Candidates who participate in the interview process will be considered essential in promoting this effort and are not in violation of Executive Order N-33-20. Virtual interviews via web portals or phone will be offered as deemed appropriate and feasible by the hiring manager – standard in-person interviews will still be offered if conditions permit. Under the direction of the Branch Chief, Local Assistance, a Senior Transportation Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for the analysis and management of the allocations, expenditures and encumbrances for the D12 Local Assistance Clean CA program and is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides project oversight of all Local Assistance programs from conception to completion. The incumbent must understand techniques in highway financing, design, consultant selection, and Federal Highway Administration’s code of regulations. This unit is responsible for oversight of local governmental agencies’ transportation projects that are funded through Caltrans.

Working Conditions

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

While at their base of operations, incumbent will work in an office under artificial lighting. Incumbent may also be required to drive to field sites and meetings, work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces and/or extreme temperatures. Telework will be considered.
