2018-2019 ACT-SO Kickoff

Forget sportsball—on September 22nd, ACT-SO is back!

ACT-SO is the NAACP’s academic enrichment program and competition for African-American high school students.  Last year, the NAACP San Diego gave out $1400 in scholarships and one all-expense paid trip to the National ACT-SO competition in San Antonio, Texas.  This year will be even better!

Casa del Rey Moro Tour

On the evening of August 31st, take a world tour through 6000 years of African world history with the NAACP San Diego branch ACT-SO program! The house of the Moorish King is open to visitors for a thorough education (or re-education) of the rich history of Africa and its contribution to today’s society right in beautiful Old Town.

This tour will take place in 2 parts. One part through the museum and the other through Old Town. A light snack will be provided prior to the event and dinner offered following the tours. Get your name on the list ASAP to have your door fee, snack, and dinner covered by the NAACP.

Space is limited and this tour is already over 50% filled. Register as soon as possible to reserve your spot!

Music and Empanadas; The (2nd) Hangout at Liberty Station

We had a great time at Liberty Station on Sunday night. It was a lovely evening with a lovely breeze, and the bands were both great. We were split on whether the opening act (Rebecca Jade and the Cold Fact) upstaged the headliner (Earl Thomas.)

Besides popcorn and drinks, we also made a run to the Liberty Station Market for empanadas, ice cream, and carmel bars.

Sock Drive for Veterans Village

Our Fun Walk & Sock Drive was a huge success!!! Thanks to all the wonderful people that came out in the scorching heat to donate socks and underwear for the homeless veterans of Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD)! Most importantly I want to thank my fellow brothers and sisters of the San Diego NAACP and the AMAZING brothers and sisters of the San Diego Veterans for Peace! Your support is greatly appreciated and let’s keep working together for positive change. ?

The (2nd) Hangout: Concert at Liberty Station

Let’s get together and hangout at Liberty Station. We will enjoy live music and great company and a few refreshments provided by the NAACP San Diego Branch. We hope to see you there for a little “music and chill” with your community.

ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station welcomes the return of Liberty Station Concerts, a wildly popular free concert series inaugurated last year thanks to Season Sponsor Rock Church. The four concerts, presented outdoors on the grassy North Promenade on Sunday evenings, will feature a collection of popular San Diego musicians and acts.

The Hangouts to provide safety (and fun) in numbers, so that we as a black community can enjoy our city, meet one another, and network on a personal and professional level. Liberty Station is being kind enough to provide the movie; the NAACP San Diego will be providing some drinks and snacks. Find us under the canopy with the NAACP banner! ✊?
