Executive Committee

The NAACP San Diego Branch, founded in 1919 and dedicated to the Civil Rights of all persons and eliminating race-based discrimination, is looking for leaders who would like to serve their communities through advocacy.

The full Executive Committee and Officers, plus Monica Montgomery, District 4 Councilmember

We are looking for individuals who want to inform, connect, and empower our membership, so that we are a strong, vibrant organization, run from the grass roots on up.

We expect all applicants to:

  • Be committed to the cause of Civil Rights
  • Be members of the NAACP San Diego Branch (join today)
  • Live or work in the greater San Diego area, south of the 56 Freeway
  • Have good communications and leadership skills
  • Have (or gain) familiarity with our bylaws

Our bylaws give the duties of each of these committees in a paragraph or so starting on page 38 (the Secretary is on page 34.) We  invite you to read the relevant section of the bylaws and then fill out a brief application form.  

We are also looking to recruit enthusiastic, outgoing people as Social Media Contributors  to take the Branch’s social media presence to the next level.

VILLAGE OF PROMISE NAVIGATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

(Part Time Position 12hrs/week @ $20.50/hour)

 

Village of Promise (VOP) is a San Diego community based nonprofit organization whose mission is to break the cycle of incarceration and to inspire hope in the lives of children that have been impacted by the incarceration of a parent. The organization strives to accomplish this mission through a collective mentoring approach that provides stability, unconditional positive regard, and role models to youth enrolled in the program.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Provide one-on-one support and mentorship to Village of Promise program participants by assessing their academic, mental health and social needs and navigating systems and programs to direct and refer participants to address those needs.

 

SCOPE

The Navigator position is supervised by the Program Coordinator. The Navigator is a member of a team of screened, trained, and supervised volunteer mentors delivering services to program participants in a culturally competent and compassionate approach.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision, the Navigator helps program participants who are facing challenges in their lives with advice, figures out what kind of help they need, helps them find the services they need, creates plans for treatment, works with guardian/parent, school staff and other health and human service providers, and keeps tabs on participant’s progress with treatment plans.

EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES

  • Provides healthy role modeling and gives emotional support to program participants.
  • Screens participants and collects and maintains program data and files.
  • Identifies information and resources which are useful to program participants.
  • Conducts outreach to middle schools and other potential referral resources.
  • Networks with schools, other organizations and agencies.
  • Provides information for quarterly newsletter.
  • Meets with Alumni of the program providing programing that help them successfully transition to independent living.
  • Helps clients achieve wellness and autonomy.
  • Participates in VOP programs, meetings, and trainings as part of a professional team.
  • Adheres to professional standards and rules and regulations outlined in the VOP policy manual
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be 21 years of age by the time of appointment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U. S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency; preferably in education, child development, social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, or other related field, AND, one (1) year of full-time professional level experience working with youth, or in social service organizations serving youth and families; OR the combination of college level course work from an accredited U.S. college or university AND (4) years of full-time professional level experience working with youth, or in social service organizations serving youth and families
  • Have and maintain their own transportation and related insurance
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug test
  • Must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid Certified

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Candidate to provide their own cell phone, computer system with at least Windows 97, and internet service.
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus
