We met at 6pm at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. We were not in the Community Room, but instead were on the third floor, in Room #389. We will return to the Community Room in March.

Last night at our February General Membership Meeting, Ms Nhu Tran, Community Relations Manager from SDG&E surprised us by announcing that SDG&E was giving us a $10,000 grant to further our work with kids. We are so grateful to see SDG&E take such an interest in developing African-American kids into the leaders we all know they can be!
We held our first General Membership Meeting of 2019 on January 3. Due to a scheduling problem beyond the control of the new Executive Committee, our normal meeting room was unavailable, and we had to make do with the 3rd Floor Lobby of the Jacobs Center. We are grateful for the patience and forbearance of our Membership, who seemed to adjust to the uncomfortable accommodations in a spirit of togetherness and hope.
After the invocation by Rev. Dr. J. Lee Hill, Jr., Senior Pastor, Christian Fellowship Congregational Church, UCC, the meeting focused on the ceremonial installation of the 2019-2020 Officers and Executive Committee. There was also an address from our new President, Clovis Honoré, and a presentation on Lupus from Shakita Jones, a member of our Executive Committee.
We had a delicious (if slightly tardy) dinner from El Pollo Grill. Also of note was the provision of child care; this will be a regular feature of our meetings going forward. If you have children you can’t leave at home, don’t let that stop you from joining the meeting!
Reverend Gerald Brown closed the meeting with a benediction.
If you are interested in the reports and other information presented at the meeting, you will find them in the Meeting Packet. You may also read the Meeting Minutes.
Please note: the February 7th General Membership Meeting will be held in Room 389 of the Jacobs Center. The March meeting will return to the Community Room. Thank you for your patience with us as we return things to order.
