Richard Vernon Moore is a San Diego native and the son of Drs. Gene and Juel Moore. In 1994, Vernon earned his bachelors’ degree from UCLA. In 2014, Vernon earned his doctorate degree in educational leadership from SDSU. His research into the dynamic systems that surround education culminated with his dissertation, titled Bureaucratic Structures in Urban High Schools. Vernon has worked in education for over 25 years, serving as a teacher, dean of students, testing coordinator, vice principal, principal and district administrator. In 2009, Vernon accepted a very challenging assignment: principal of ALBA Community Day School—a specialized school in the San Diego Unified School District serving students that have been expelled. Vernon drafted the school’s motto, Empowering Students: Changing Lives, and designed an innovative program for that unique population. In February 2021, Vernon was named as the Chief of Educational Equity and Support Services for the Sweetwater Union High School District. In this position, Vernon serves as the District’s primary leader of the efforts to ensure all students have equity-based opportunities for success.
Most importantly, Vernon and his beautiful wife Gwen are the proud parents of Ricky and Kaya Juel!
