Sonja brings a perspective to grassroots organizing derived from the fundamental structure of Organizational Change Development and Project Management gained from her experience with a global consulting firm, Accenture. She applies her consulting and analytical skills in mobilizing measurable change for our environment and communities. She understands the importance of developing sustainable buildings, where we spend 80% of our daily time. She joined the Public Policy Team of San Diego 350 to lobby bills that support our environment and communities. When she was Chair of ECJ, she lobbied countless efforts throughout San Diego County to bring substantial climate justice. She was asked to lead the effort for Community Choice Energy (CCE) for a San Diego council district. As a Community Energy Organizer with San Diego Community Choice Alliance she worked diligently to bring awareness and support of the viable options Community Choice will bring to our communities. She saw Community Choice as a vehicle that would infuse equity and bring sustainable economic benefits to Southeast San Diego. She believes that transformation energy will do far more for our community now and in the future. She believes in building support across communities in order to meet our sustainability goals as solutions. This includes solutions environmentally, sustainable buildings, energy democracy, transportation, and an inclusive green workforce. She has an internet talk radio show, S.U.N (Sustainable Urban Network) addressing environmental justice on G.O.D.Radio1.com airs on Saturdays. She has been recognized for her work for sustainability and environmental justice by San Diego County Environmental Action Club, Indivisible Women of Color Roar, along with legislators U.S. Senator Kamala Harris and California State Senator Toni Atkins and a recent accolade in 2020, “Unsung Hero” award from Climate Action Campaign.
